Gosh…we Indians are not even in the race! Wonder whether so much content consumption is good or bad. What’s your take?

“Clocks slay time… time is dead as long as it is being clicked off by little wheels; only when the clock stops does time come to life.” - William Faulkner
Quentin: Gentlemen, I have some good news and some bad news. Which would you prefer?
Thick Kevin: Good news.
Quentin: Okay. The good news is the engine has exploded and we’re all going to die.
Dave: Hello, Dr Dave, Radio Rock. How is that good news?
Quentin: I haven’t yet told you how we’re going to die. That’s the bad news.
Simon: How are we gonna die?
Quentin: We’re going to drown in the freezing waters of the North Sea.
Felicity: Dearie me.
Quentin: There is a huge hole in the side of the boat and in an unfortunate development, it transpires that the lifeboats are useless.
Thick Kevin: [to Angus] Actually, that’s quite good for you, isn’t it? ‘Cause you can’t swim, so you’ll die quicker.
Quentin: Sorry.
“The Boat That Rocked” rocks!
Do something.
Do something interesting.
Be a part of the conversation, and say something remarkable. Create something unique, new, beautiful. Build upon the works of others and transform it into your own.
How to do this?
Write a book. Or an ebook. Write poetry and publish it on the web. Create interesting, lovely or funny videos, put them on You Tube. Be passionate. Write a web app that will solve a problem in people’s lives. Become a watchdog to replace the faltering newspapers. Explore the world, and blog about it. Try something you’ve always been afraid to try, and put it on video. Be yourself, loudly. Start a new company, doing only one thing, but doing it very well. Start a business that does a service you’ve always wanted, or that you are frustrated with in other companies because the service sucks. Put your heart into something. Say something that no one else dares to say. Do something others are afraid to do. Help someone no one else cares to help. Make the lives of others better. Make music that makes others want to weep, to laugh, to create. Inspire others by being inspiring. Teach young people to do amazing things. Write a play, get others to act in it, record it. Empower others to do things they’ve never been able to do before. Read, and read, and then write. Love, and love, and then help others to love. Do something good and ask others to pass it on. Be profound. Find focus in a world without it. Become minimalist in a world of dizzying complexity. Reach out to those who are frustrated, depressed, angry, confused, sad, hurt. Be the voice for those without one. Learn, do, then teach. Meet new people, become fast friends. Dare to be wrong. Take lots and lots of pictures. Explore new cultures. Be different. Paint a huge mural. Create a web comic. Be a dork, but do it boldly. Interview people. Observe people. Create new clothes. Take old stuff and make new stuff from it. Read weird stuff. Study the greats, and emulate them. Be interested in others. Surprise people. Start a blog, write at least a little each day. Cook great food, and share it. Be open-minded. Help someone else start a small business. Focus on less but do it better. Help others achieve their dreams. Put a smile on someone’s face, every day. Start an open-source project. Make a podcast. Start a movement. Be brave. Be honest. Be hilarious. Get really, really good at something. Practice a lot. A lot. Start now. Try.
What’s the future of marketing? And of advertising? Or will there be any future to them?
Well, being a hardcore marketing believer I always like to say, “Dinosaurs have gone extinct. Humans will. But marketing won’t. Never”. Why, one may ask.
Marketing is a true human need. Human beings, by their very nature, like to have choices and make choices. And where there is a choice, there’s marketing. Marketing helps us to identify areas where to create value. It helps us evaluate choices. In some cases, it also helps us make decisions. Nothing summarises marketing better than this presentation by Paul Isakson.

I cried on the lap of life as death approached
“Oh beauty! Oh Life! Give me another chance”, I said
“I gave you joy. I offered you peace”, she sighed
“I gave you heaven. And look…at the hell you’ve made”
This is my life
Nothing shakes me
Nothing shuffles me
Anymore..
I like being
In my own zone
In my own zen
I like being sane
And insane..
I like being
Cool
Hell with the world
Sliming in its own
Stool..
Why should I
Give a damn
To those shouting
Save the common man ?
I am
Not common
This is my life
Why should I ?..
Besides BEST-buses and Local Trains, Auto-rickshaws form the irreplaceable veins of Mumbai. I realized their huge number only when I noticed the traffic jams or rather, the lack of them, when Auto-wallahs recently went on a strike. On numerous occasions I have discussed, at length, topics ranging from Indian cricket to Australian Cricket, from local neta to PM, from society to religion with them on my ride home… and their knowledge has never failed to astound me! (On one occasion, I went on a rampage against an influential UP politician and guess what, the rick-wallah turned out to be his ardent supporter. Thank God, he didn’t ask me to get down!)
Only a rickshaw-wallah has the X-Ray vision and the driving prowess to get you out of the labyrinthine traffic jams in Mumbai. So as a tribute to this King of the Road, I present you two poems that I found on the net (Google, to me, looks like a rickshaw-wallah guiding in an equally complicated maze of websites):
Poem I (Poet Unknown)
Look around, the roads seem strangely quite and peaceful
No noise and Pollution? Nothing running amok like a mad bull?
A flash of lightning, and it jumps out from the frying pan,
Here comes the AutoRickshaw, so watch out Super-Man!
You glide through the roads with poise and grace
Spewing poisonous smoke onto eveybody’s face.
Millions of devotees call out to you every day
You will come only if the driver feels like going that way.
You feast on petrol, kerosene and maybe even Jet Fuel,
You could put Schumacher to shame in a racing duel!
You draw your prey in, promising to make the day sweeter,
Then cheat them out of their money, with the tampered meter!
Preaching through portraits of fables and holy messages,
Bad drawings of Rajnikanth and other Bollywood sages!
You fearlessly roam the city streets like a giant toad,
You truly deserve the title of THE KING OF THE ROAD!
Poem II (Poet: Tom Fenwick)
You hot, perspiring human horse,
I marvel at your bliss.
Are you sad or glad to force
Your bread from men like this?
To grunt and run and pant and sweat
Beneath a burning sun
Your plantain plate of rice to get
When all the sunnings done.
For it’s “Chop-chop” up in China,
And it’s “lekas” in Malay.
While it’s “Juldi Jao” in India,
The burning livelong day.
You grunt and run and pant and pull
To reap your rich rewards;
Your blessings are as bountiful
As strings on monochords.
When I came East I could not ride;
It seemed all wrong to me
I walked, and let them all deride
The cause with “jeu d’esprit.”
But custom is a cunning past;
E’en princess she will beat.
And now you pull me with the rest
Along the dusty street.
And it’s “Chop-chop” up in China,
While it’s “lekas” in Malay.
And it’s “Juldi Jao” in India,
The burning livelong day.
I often wonder when you die,
And leave that sweated shell,
If you will ride, beyond the sky,
Or drag one still in hell!
Currently I am reading a graphic novel called ‘Watchmen’ by Alan Moore (Yeah..Watchmen the movie is based on this one). Following are some of the best thoughts/comments/dialogues I found in it:
Btw, here’s the trailer of Watchmen-the movie:
